When One is faced with an Inner Conflict that they are unprepared to resolve, they will try to find ways to either,
- Avoid and ignore the Conflict.
- Dissipate the Energy driving the Conflict.
By doing so, they may reduce the Intensity temporarily and thus gain a period of reprieve.
Avoiding The Conflict
Distraction or attempting to move One’s Awareness away from the Conflict is the primary method for avoiding and ignoring the Inner Conflict. This can be achieved by obsessing over other activities, unnecessary busy work, seeking constant sensual stimulation (stimulation of the senses) and substance abuse. This technique only really works while the Intensity is relatively low.
The way a high Intensity Conflict is avoided and ignored is to push it out of One’s Awareness altogether, which leads to the creation of the “sub-conscious”. This then compartmentalises the Conflict and allows time for a resolution. But in so doing, creates a backlog which one day must be addressed and accounted for.
Dissipating Energy
A method that is used to dissipate Energy, thus temporarily reduce Intensity, is Self-destructive behaviour such as heavy, repetitive substance abuse. This forces the available Energy to be consumed in repair and healing of the body.
The physical body is the primary vessel for experience and interaction in this material reality, hence without it, all else is irrelevant. That is why it must be maintained to a minimal level of health for any material experience to be possible and the reason why Energetic priority is given to its well-being first and foremost.
So, in effect, by constantly engaging in activities which damage the physiological body, Energy must be consumed in repair on the physical level. Therefore, there is little Energy left to initiate deeper levels of healing of the Human Being, consequently the deeper Conflicts are never addressed.
If a point is reached where One can no longer avoid the Intensity of the Inner Conflict and is unwilling to face it, then what comes about is a situation of “Path of Least Resistance”. The Inner Conflict seems insurmountable, so the only other solution is to inflame the Outer component of the Conflict, which may potentially lead to violence. This also dissipates the Energy temporarily, but can bring on feelings of guilt and Self-loathing, which in turn could feed the Inner Conflict even further.
These additional feelings of guilt and Self-loathing may also be repressed, adding to the backlog of Conflicts that require resolution.
There is usually a combination of both strategies at play when manoeuvring to avoid the Inner Conflict, with the outcome of such choices being a spiral of Self-destruction.
